Almost entirely club-branded and aimed at younger supporters. Teddy bears run deepest — contrast bears, honey bears, hat-and-scarf bears and named club bears such as Everton's Timmy — alongside a wider plush range of zebras, giraffes, penguins, racoons and yappy dogs, plus seasonal gonks and soft footballs. Newcastle United carries the broadest selection of characters.

A first gift or a keepsake?

Both exist here and they are not the same purchase. The plush animals and soft footballs are play items, sized for a cot or a pushchair and meant to be handled. The hat-and-scarf and named club bears are keepsake pieces, usually bought for a birth, a christening or a first match, and they tend to end up on a shelf rather than in the toy box.

Are they safe for a young child?

Licensed club soft toys are made to UK toy safety standards, with sewn features rather than glued-on parts and an age marking on the label. That marking is the thing to read before buying for a baby, and it is the first corner unlicensed plush cuts.
